About Us

Vission: The Neotropical Montology Collaboratory (henceforth referred to as NMC) seeks to increase the understanding of theoretical frames of mountain science applied to practical topics of the global environmental change process in mountainscapes. By incorporating a transdisciplinary approach, the work of NMC is based on socioecological theory applicable to communities in mountain areas, including different angles that use both physical and human geography inputs, into a coherent disciplinary stream of political ecology.

Mission: To nurture scholarly activities associated with geoecological research on rural landscapes (cf. farmscapes) of the Americas, by providing means to observe, dialogue, and explore various issues affecting neotropical mountains and to become a catalyst of geographical work towards sustainable and regenerative development, agrobiodiversity conservation, livelihood security and poverty alleviation. The NMC incubator of geoecological activities will seek to generate collaborative research networks, potential for training and development, dissemination and monitoring of environmental services of neotropical mountains.
