Formation of the Latin American and Caribbean Network for Research and Innovation in Mountain Environments (LACMONT) was organized at Mountains 2018, an event held in Nova Friburgo, a municipality in the mountain region of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, with the initial enthusiastic participation of researchers from Brazil, Mexico, Chile, Ecuador, Colombia and Argentina. The Network is linked to the FAO’s Mountains Alliance and its objective is to cooperatively advance research on different topics related to mountain landscapes, to generate information, knowledge and other joint initiatives for conservation, recovery, promotion of environmental services and sustainable, regenerative development of these environments . It is expected, based on the articulations and actions developed by LACMONT members, to generate knowledge, to catalyze collaboration, to promote initiatives, and to subsidize public decision-making processes, policies and programs, with the challenge of improving the quality of mountainscapes and the people who inhabit or depend on them.
